Schiffbauerdamm 5, Berlin
Vive la France - at the Schiffbauerdamm. Gourmets and fans of the French cuisine are pampered by the Brasserie Ganymed on the highest culinary standards. In former times, Bert Brecht and Helene Weigel stopped here to enjoy the cooking and the authentic Parisian air. The dishes are prepared with fresh, regional products and special French delicacies; the waiters celebrate flambeing, carving and filleting in front of the guests. On hot days and warm summer nights, be sure to secure a place on the Spree Terrace. All dishes are prepared with an extent of care and we can guarantee the vast variety of wines. Well trained waiting staff are always there to help or recommend best food and wine to accomodate your taste pallets. We always try to impress our guests with different menu each day. Our chefs daily create special lunch menu (served 12AM - 4PM) and dinner menu (served 5:30PM - 11PM) in order for our loyal customers and tourists to try something new each day.
New Year's Eve menu by order: good food, bad service, unfriendly manager At the turn of the year 2020/2021, we ordered the New Year's Eve menu for four people to be delivered to our home. The food was delicious and easy to prepare with the attached instructions. However, the announced walnuts for the main course were missing. While the food is recommended, there was a gaffe in the delivery of the food. On the website it was announced that the delivery was free for orders of 100 euros or more. Furthermore, the delivery area is limited to 8km, unless an agreement is made by telephone. There was no question here of the fact that in such a case the delivery costs would have to be borne by the customer. After a phone call with the restaurant, I was promised the delivery of the menu to Karlshorst, 9km away. Here, too, not a single word was mentioned that we would have to pay the delivery costs ourselves. When it was then on December 31. When the doorbell rang, a taxi driver was standing in front of us, demanding an amount of almost 30 euros for the delivery. At first we thought that there had been a mistake in the festive hustle and bustle and after New Year's Eve we emailed the restaurant to ask for a refund. Here we were only told that the error was on our side, as we were supposedly advised of the extra costs on the phone. We were offered a voucher for the restaurant out of “niceness”. We couldn't do anything with this voucher because we would have had the same delivery problem again. So we wrote a new email and asked again for reimbursement of the taxi costs. This was followed by an extremely unfriendly e-mail from the managing director, who indirectly insinuated that we were too stupid, understood the offer and, according to the motto “bad luck”, informed us that the matter was now over for him. In response to my objection that we were never informed about the additional costs of a taxi, there was no more answer, which is why we felt compelled to write this review. Conclusion: delicious food, unfriendly staff who do not stand by their mistakes and do not accommodate the guests. No recommendation!
Had the New Years Eve menu for 2 people. After there were apparently various complications during the preparation, I was given the prepared dishes, more or less punctually, but with the note that "everything should now be complete", i.e. all ingredients plus preparation instructions, should be in the pockets. But if something is unexpectedly missing or I have something to complain about, I should just get in touch. What I did, directly, because something was really missing and something else was unsightly ... Namely, the preparation instructions for the various dishes, as well as the walnuts for the vegetables, were missing. In addition, there were far too many withered and mushy leaves in our wild herb salad, and the plastic container the salad was in was dirty and oily smeared on the inside. In addition, I still don't know what a mixed rocket / pick salad with honey-mustard dressing "wild herbs" should be, because there were no herbs in either the salad or the dressing. The bean puree was extremely salty, the black salsify raw, and there were 5 involtini for 2 people, which the guest then shared or what? In the restaurant itself, something like that would definitely not have ended up on the table from the kitchen, but in the garbage. But after you can't call the waiter from home on New Year's Eve, at night, or complain about the dirty dishes, is it okay that you get something for 55 € per person? Unfortunately, the restaurant did not respond to my direct contact at all and left me alone with our New Year's Eve / birthday menu without preparation instructions, without salad and without walnuts ...
The christmas set menu that is delivered at your doorstep is tasty and with very generous portions, as it comes with 3 courses. The main course was amazing and the instructions were clear and easy to follow on how to properly heat everything up. I recommend to get the meal cold - it's no use getting it warm as only the gänse will be hot and the delivery time is a bit weird (very early) so there's no use in it arriving warm already. The starter (chestnut cream soup) was really tasty. The only downside was the dessert (baked apple) which was very plain and had a weird texture inside.
Excellent Christmas goose! We picked up a Christmas goose. Not only that the collection was brilliantly organized and prepared. They also comforted us with the perfect goose and side dishes over the unusual Christmas restaurant visit. Next time, however, definitely live again at Ganymede.
We had / wanted the Christmas goose "delux" menu. The pick up in the restaurant went smoothly. But much more important is the rating of the food, that's what this part is for. Well, the chestnut soup didn't have the seasoning - you have spices in the house for that. The goose was said to be the tastiest (according to the chef). Well, she suffered from underweight (2.2 kilos with filling at 4 -5 kilos live weight). After the recommended preparation, the skin was not crispy and had to be "refilled". Still it wasn’t great. The red cabbage was coarse and hard. The kale was hay. Well, you can't really go wrong with the dumplings. The sauce was extremely salty. Only the baked apples were good. Our food is being brought back. We decided it was an attempt, but nothing more.
Super friendly, great service and the best quality. we had ordered a Christmas goose to pick up and everything was really wonderful. Always my pleasure
I can only recommend it very tasty, thanks a lot for the delicious roast goose
We had ordered a goose with side dishes via Germany-wide shipping. The goose was delivered quickly and cool and nicely packaged. The enclosed instructions for warming up the food were easy to understand and the warming up required little effort. The goose and all the side dishes were delicious! Recommended for everyone, don't be afraid to choose the shipping option if you live outside of Berlin. It is worth it! We'll be happy to order again =) Happy Holidays and stay healthy :-)
Roast goose to go ... we bought a voucher through Groupon. The roast was so exceptionally tasty, dumplings, red and kale delicious and the sauce amazing. In addition, fine red wine - a worthwhile decision. For the final preparation (final crunchy skin) there were indications that you couldn't go wrong with. Without exaggeration, it was the best roast goose we have ever tasted. Many Thanks.
Much better in the past but still worth a visit.
Ambience like the 1920s. Stylish, classy - a good choice for a date. Somewhat higher in price. We had the medium plus rump steak. Not a French dish, but very tasty. French fries hand cut. We'll be back for sure.
It seems like it really is a tourist trap. Went there on a TUE evening, they were very light on customers. However, we waited 30 mins for a water and a bottle of wine to be brought to the table (and this only after we asked the waiters to 1. Take our order and 2. Bring us at least the drinks after such a long waiting time). The service is incompetent. The food, same. Mediocre would be a boost. I had lobster spaghetti which is 30 eur and they did not bring me anything to break the lobster claw. The spaghetti were dry and the lobster tasted of nothing (can’t even imagine for how long it was frozen for). Really poor. Never again. The two stars are for the location, the dining area is beautiful. But that’s it.
I know the Ganymede from the time of the GDR. We were teenagers then. In the last 30 years I've been there several times, admittedly always on special occasions, because it's always a highlight and the evening here is guaranteed to be a success. On my last two birthdays I spent time there and spoiled myself and my people deliciously. The multitude of dishes make it difficult to decide because you want to eat everything. The CHÂTEAUBRIAND in connection with a red Rhône - family Perrin was the absolute hammer. Oysters and beef tartare before and the créme brûlée and the moelleux au chocolate afterwards and in this combination, just made you happy. My wife had the lobster. She had to share it with us because you don't eat it that often ;-) All in all, a very nice evening with happy friends. Because I travel a lot in the field and would like to have a good meal with my customers, I can also imagine the Ganymed very well for business appointments. In conclusion, I would like to say: I don't know of any restaurant in Berlin that has been so consistently so good over such a long period of time. The many hardworking hands in the background and the very friendly service at the table, very discreet and yet very attentive. I would love to come back, also with friends, and I can recommend Ganymede out of deep conviction.
We loved it. Delicious food prepared with love. The kitchen crew masters their craft. Also very nice ambience, friendly and attentive service. All in all, an all-round successful evening. We felt very welcome. We'll definitely stop by again😉
Excellent experience. As a regular traveller I recommend a visit with 100% confidence. The food has an excellent quality. The staff is amazingly friendly and speaks very good English which is rare for Germany. The food quality and it’s taste is very high. The staff were on hand with suggestion and had excellent knowledge of what’s on offer. Some of the 5* places in Berlin I have tried in Berlin could not have matched by a degree the excellent quality and personal touch to the food and excellent wine quality. You surely not going to pay McDonald price for this place but you have an excellent view similar to Paris, excellent food quality and exceptional service. Keep up the hard work 💪💪💪
As a dog owner, you've lost with the man who calls himself boss there. "Caution snappy" really suits him as the head of the house rather than my dog, who lies dutifully next to the table and sleeps. (Mind you with a muzzle - but that was probably too unsure for the older boss, he had to interrupt our conversation again to ask where the muzzle for the beast is) Impossible provocative behavior and no sure instinct meant that we left without a main course. Do us as guests and your employees a favor and please retire! The previous reviews on the net do not leave you in a good light, Mr. Michael Pankow!
The table was set as soon as we sat down, but after we had not received a card 15 minutes later, we left again. And thank you for letting us use your toilet.
I stayed at the Ganymede with my best friend in early August on a recommendation and definitely cannot agree with the last reviews. On the contrary: We were greeted in a friendly manner and taken to our reserved table. We ordered 3 courses, had no long waiting time and it was delicious. We will come back in any case :) 5 stars for service <3 5 stars for food & drinks
The "Oktoberfest" was ended because of "shouting too loudly" instead of around 10 p.m. and shortly after eight. Even those who run a "fine" bar have to expect that if you advertise an Oktoberfest party, you will be expected to be able to party until 10am and "shout along" to typical Oktoberfest music.
The food was extremely tasty, no question about it! Service was solid ... drinks were not poured and generally kept relatively simple. Would the restaurant trzd. Recommend to others!
Good service and cosy atmosphere
Mega yummy! Whether from the reception about the "recommendations of the house" - Or from entré to degestiv ... An all-round remarkable evening! The staff accompanied us competently and very charmingly through our stay. We were all absolutely thrilled. Thank you for an excellent evening and see you very soon :) Little tip: try the Chateaubriand. You will certainly not be disappointed.
The food is solid although overpriced. They mostly cater to tourists so not shocking. My big complaint is that they do not have a wine cellar or even a chilled area to store their wines. They sell some expensive bottles of red wine and on a hot day, it is very unpleasant to be served red wine that's 30 or 35 degrees in temperature.
We had a voucher for a 3-course meal. What was not served was what was on the menu. We got different meat, different side dishes and only part of the dessert. For the price, the food was average at best and we only got very small portions. It all looks very noble, but seems to be more of a facade than reality.
Don’t order the onion soup! Total rip off!!! The onions weren’t even carmelized!... it was like they started making the soup after I ordered it. I was there a few weeks ago for my birthday, and I was disappointed. The service was rather gruff, which can be expected in French restaurants, but the cold wine bottles are stored far from the table, and I’m not sure we were always refilled with the same bottle we ordered. The beef bourgogneon was decent. Steak frites were ok, but there was a lot of fat on the steak. The escargot were edible, but could have used a lot more garlic and....... love? It just felt like an overpriced, midgrade tourist trap.
A wonderful restaurant with first class cuisine! Super service, competent very nice staff! Super fresh and very high quality oysters, steaks and everything else that we ate and drank yesterday evening was simply delicious and delicious !! A little vacation in France 🇫🇷 !! Thank you for that and we will be back soon !!
Excellent Seafood. We loved it !
This place has the best beouf borgignon I’ve had in Berlin
Very good food and very nice place in front of river
The food looked amazing. But we've got totally cold lobster soup (we didn't know if it Was supposed to be like that but after asking the waiter Said oh no it was supposed to be warm... Which I find really impressive if the cook can't make sure that the soup is warm). The main was fine but also not very warm. I found risotto very bland in taste. Apparently the meat dish was good. But than we had to wait 45 minutes for our dessert to come which was a real cherry on the cake (; we felt like in a hidden camera that so many things gone wrong but I liked the French atmosphere of the place. I might give this place another chance but my friend said he will definitely never come back especially as he felt very sick after... I'm not sure if that was because of the food but it might have been.
Delicious food. Well cooked. Exellent service. Nice location just next to river Spree. Just go there.
Very nice place with friendly personnel and very delicious food. I’ll be happy to visit this restaurant again.
Fantastic food, helpful and accomodating friendly service
We entered the restaurant because they had a singer playing the piano to French chansons, sounding beautiful. The menu we took of 3 courses was pretty traditional. Quality was nice, but nothing inspiring or worth writing home about...service was professional and the highlight were by all means the desserts
Great place top food
Poor lunch for vegetarians. The place has seen better days. Surprise to read the very positive review in the Guardian.
Great food and great service!
The service was not as nice as I had hoped, we felt quite forgotten from time to time. The food was very good.
Nice restaurant, would make a reservation next time to sit by the river. Nice to eat at during the day or evening.
We were there with a Groupon deal for 99 euros covering the value of our 178. The menu was set based on the deal, and the service was fast and friendly. The food and wine were excellent, tasty, and fair portions. We’ll come again probably, and then we’d wish for these little improvements: - we ordered coke zero, it took very long and somehow we didn’t get the red wine for the main with the main, maybe because of that - we got the main red wine with the dessert, which gave a bit the feeling that we need to ask for the dessert wine. After asking it came quick though - we always had lots of empty glasses on our table. The table was small, but when eg the cone sero came, we had still empty wine and water glasses and an empty water carafe. Anyway, thanks.
Fabulous seafood and service - we had oysters from Marennes followed by the ‘Berlin’ platter - both truly excellent and to top it all was the crepes suzette cooked in front of our table!
Nice food and service, prices are high for the place conditions...
Great food and wine, beautiful space by the river. A bit pricey but worth it
good food, friendly staff, great live music
exquisite
To much fat on steak, fries baked badly, beer was good, dust everywhere, toilets filty
Amazing restorant, perfect! Hugly reccoment if you are not scared of prices
This place has its fair share of bad reviews. Reading them, it seems that service can be a bit hit or miss. All I can say is than when I was there, service was very attentive and we had a lovely evening. As for the food, they do French classics: escargots, onion soup, coq au vin, crepes suzette and so on. If you know a place in Berlin where they do this better than at Ganymed, please let me know because everything was very, very good. Also don't forget to check out their wine bar a few doors down.
Very nice and flavorful food just its really pricey
Oh my! Vive la France, vive le Ganymed. Admittedly I'm a premium shopper and French cuisine is long been one of my favorites, I have tried many things at many places around the world. This restaurant reigns supreme on practically everything we have tried. A traditional French high cuisine, at its best. Every dish is a symphony, full of taste, full of care, impeccable service, attentive, but not annoyingly overwhelming. We had a fantastic dinner tonight. A very delicate and tasteful resolution of my request by Laurent left long lingered warm feeling. Nice wine menu although some premium wines been sold out. It's especially striking as Berlin is full of low class so-called restaurants where they serve hummus, pizza, chicken, curry and crepes on the same plate. In my not so humble opinion only brainless or a ill minded competitor could possibly give a bad rating to this establishment. I felt almost like in Ratatouille movie. And "I'll be back hungry for more.
